S.Korea Finances Vietnam $13M ODA Project to Improve Livestock Workforce
The South Korean government announced a project valued at $13 million in official development assistance (ODA) to help the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture (VNUA) enhance its higher education capacity for the improvement of the workforce in the animal husbandry sector, state media reported.
The information was unveiled at the project kick-off ceremony in Hanoi on October 4, co-hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), VNUA, the South Korean Embassy in Hanoi, and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
With its duration through 2030, the project will focus on (i) improving higher education through consultancy for livestock industry policies and institutions; (ii) enhancing the curriculum, training environment, and laboratory environment; (iii) building capacity for lecturers, livestock industry officials, and staff of relevant agencies.
It will target to (iv) support students in the field of entrepreneurship, job searching, and activating links between universities and businesses; and (v) establish the Vietnam-Korea Livestock Research and Training Institute (VKLI) under VNUA.
Currently, South Korea ranks first in direct investment in Vietnam, second in ODA supply, labor, and tourism, and third in trade exchange.
