Russia Universities Seek Vietnam Students

Russia’s universities are seeking to enroll Vietnamese students through scholarships and self-financed study, the government said on its website. On Sept 14-21 three leading Russian universities namely Povolzhsky State University of Telecommunication and Informatics (PSUTI), Southern Federal University and Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) will work with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, high schools and universities in Hanoi to boost cooperation. They will attract Vietnamese students by offering full-time scholarships and courses linked with local universities. The students would be trained in different majors, especially Russian language with an aim to meet the demand for rising number of Russian tourists to the Southeast Asian country. This year, the government of Russia will grant 600 scholarships to Vietnam, up 42% on year. The number would rise to 650 in 2015 and 1,000 in 2020. The full-course scholarships are mainly given to state employees, winners of Russian-using contests and International Mathematical Olympiad, focusing on state management and macroeconomics. The cooperation follows many countries which boost education ties with Vietnam as more Vietnamese people have been seeking for education abroad or tertiary training models jointly provided by domestic and foreign investors over the past years.
