RoK, Japanese Doctors to Provide Free Surgeries for Vietnam Children

A 19-doctor delegation from the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Japan will offer free-of-charge surgeries to children with cleft lip and palate in Vietnam. The “Week of free surgery for children with cleft lip and palate,” which was co-organized from Oct 3-9 by the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology and the RoK’s Cleft Lip and Palate Association, aimed to benefit more than 40 disadvantaged children across the country. Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Xuyen expressed thanks to the doctors for their supports to Vietnam’s poor children with cleft lips and palate. The deputy minister stressed the charitable activity’s significance in bringing smiles to these children and their families in a move to help them integrate into the community easily. In the framework of the event, foreign health experts will also provide Vietnamese odontologists with training courses to improve the doctors’ professional skills, making contribution to boosting the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam’s health sector with the RoK and Japan.  In Vietnam, thousands of children are born with clef lips and palate each year, experts said.
