Over VND100B Spent for Poor People in HCM City
The Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City on April 10th held a conference to summaries the mobilization “For the poor” in 2011. According to reports, the City’s mobilization boards for the poor had actively launched a series of mobilizations and received generous donations from domestic and international organizations and individuals over the past year. The donations were then distributed by the City’s Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front to its subordinate units to assist the local poor. During 2011, more than VND100 billion was spent in a large number of meaningful activities to render practical supports to the local poor and to contribute to the ensuring of the local social safety network during 2011. Particularly, the City’s Committee of the Vietnam Father Front granted 3,500 Nguyen Huu Tho scholarships to good students from poor families, supported more than VND3.5billion of capital for local poor farmers to boost their agricultural cultivation and livestock breeding in an effort to escape from poverty.
