Netherlands Helps Train Staff for Seaport Sector in Vietnam
Tan Cang-STC Human Resources Development Ltd Co., which specializes in human resources training in seaport, maritime transport services and logistics, made its debut in Ho Chi Minh City on March 21. The company is a joint venture between Vietnam’s Tan Cang Saigon Corporation (SNP) and the Dutch STC group, the world leading company in maritime logistics, under the sponsorship of the government of Netherlands. Ton Van Essen, General Director of the Tan Cang-STC Co., said that with modern facilities and training software designed in line with the Vietnamese market, trainees will have the chance to practice professional skills, and gain internationally accredited degrees. The company will conduct short training courses for staff, managers and workers involved in maritime transport and seaports. Nguyen Dang Nghiem, General Director of the SNP, said the establishment of the JV will meet the increasing demand for human resources in the seaport industry and logistics, which are weak in Vietnam. Vietnam has over 100 ports of different kinds, including 39 seaports. However, most of Vietnamese seaports are unable to serve container ships with capacity of over 50,000 tons. The Southeast Asian nation will need an estimated VND360 trillion ($17.22 billion) and VND440 trillion for seaport development from now to 2020.
