Natural Disasters Cost Vietnam VND389B in April: GSO

Vietnam has lost about VND389 billion ($18.5 million) from natural disasters in April, versus nearly VND139 billion in the same period last year, said the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO). Of the total, VND382 billion came from hailstones and whirlwinds in northern mountainous provinces, where Lao Cai was hardest hit with 38 deaths and injuries. Natural disasters also left 59 people dead and injured, over 23,000 houses collapsed and damaged over 3,000 hectares of paddy and subsidiary crops. (GSO April Edition)
