More People in Drought-hit Areas Receive Assistance

The Prime Minister on August 11th adopted investment for a project giving urgent support to those affected by drought and salt intrusion in the south-central, Central Highlands and Mekong River Delta regions. The project aims to improve the provision of water, environmental sanitation and nutrition for the 366,000 residents most seriously affected by the natural disasters. In particular, intervention in clean water, sanitation and communications encouraging the practice of sanitation among children in drought and salt intrusion affected regions will be carried out, while nutrition support and communications on ensuring basic living conditions for affected children will also be disseminated. With an investment of $4 million of non-refundable assistance from the United Nations Children's Fund, the project will be implemented in the 10 provinces of Ben Tre, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Tra Vinh, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak, Kon Tum and Gia Lai by the Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Development.
