- India Ambassador to Vietnam Ranjit Rae has donated his private collection of 194 books in different languages to the National Library. In recent years, the National Library of Vietnam and the Embassy of India have strengthened multifaceted co-operation and jointly organized many cultural events that helped to expand mutual understanding between the two countries. "In the area of libraries, the Embassy of India has donated many books, pictures and documents as well as scholarships and professional training for staff at Vietnamese libraries," said Phan Thi Kim Dung, the National Library's director. "The books collected during the Ambassador's career covers a wide range of topics and will be a precious resource for our readers," she said. (Vietnam News Sept 28)

- The Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association of Japan's Kawasaki City has donated 985 bicycles to poor students in the central city of Danang and Quang Nam Province. The Danang city's people's committee said the donation, which costs VND2 billion ($95,000), will be handed-over to the municipal Friendship Union next month. Kawasaki City has provided nearly 5,000 bicycles for Danang following a 10,000 bicycle donation program from 2003-15. (vovnews.vn Sept 26)
