- The Canon Vietnam Company Ltd delivered five bookcases and other school equipment to the Canon-Bet Tray friendship primary school in Cam Thach commune, Cam Thuy district, Thanh Hoa province on August 11. The school is one of the many Canon friendship schools built in 2007 throughout the northern mountainous region of Vietnam. (vovnews.vn Aug 12)

- The Pacific Links Foundation (PALS), a U.S.-based non-governmental organization, on August 4 granted scholarships to 376 female students in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta provinces of An Giang, Dong Thap and Kien Giang. The scholarships are part of the An Giang-Dong Thap Alliance for the Prevention of Trafficking (ADAPT) program run by the U.S. organization in the three provinces for a period of seven years. The ADAPT move aims to prevent the trafficking of young girls and women by enhancing their educational attainment and improving their vocational choices. Founded in 2001, PALS is a public charity whose mission is to support the sustainable development of Vietnamese communities and the enrichment of their cultural heritage .Over the past decade, the organization has strived to encourage sustainable development through knowledge transfer and exchanges between professionals in Vietnam and in the developed world.  Since 2005, PALS has granted nearly 3,740 scholarships to 779 female students at junior and senior high schools in the three localities.
