JICA Keens on Water Supply Project in Vietnam South City

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is showing its interest in a project on building a clean water supply plant in Vietnam’s southern city of Can Tho, a Japanese official said. JICA’s Director General for Private Sector Partnerships, Osamu Murata made the statement at a working session with Can Tho leaders early this week, giving no detail about the project’s investment. Song Hau 1 water supply plant is expected to provide 500,000 cubic meters of water per day for local residents in O Mon district. Murata added that the JICA wishes to assist in conducting a feasibility study for the project under the form of public-private-partnership (PPP). The JICA is also mulling over a financial contribution to a project on building a large-scale water purification plant in Hanoi with a total estimated capital of JPY10 billion-JPY20 billion. The facility is designed to produce 150,000cu.m of water in first years, and its capacity will rise to 300,000cu.m by 2020. Japan, Vietnam’s largest bilateral provider of ODA, pledged $1.76 billion out of $7.9 billion in ODA provided by international donors for the country this year. (Dau Tu – Investment Nov 23 p3)
