JICA Funds $350M to Build Turbine 2 of 660-MW Power Plant in South
Turbine 2 of the 660-MW O Mon 1 gas-fueled power plant which is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will be built on Sept 21 in Vietnam’s southern city of Can Tho, the Tien Phong newspaper reported. Following the completion of Turbine 1 in 2009, JICA has continued to fund $350 million in the form official development assistance (ODA) for the investor, the state-run Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), to build Turbine 2, the newspaper said. With an initial investment of VND6.6 trillion ($319 million), O Mon 1 plant will be built under the engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) contract by the consortium between Japan’s Sojitz Corp and South Korea’s Daelim Industrial Co., Ltd. The power plant is expected to produce 3.6 billion kWh of electricity per year once its turbine 2 starts operation in 2015. O Mon 1 is one of the nine thermal power plants in Vietnam receiving Japanese ODA. (Tien Phong – Pioneer Sept 20 p5)
