Japan Pledges to Further Fund Infrastructure Projects in Vietnam

Japan will continue to finance Vietnam to achieve its goal, especially transport infrastructure development, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) Osamu Yoshida said. Mr. Yoshida, who is now on a visit to Vietnam, made the statement at a meeting with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai on September 25 in Hanoi. The visit aims to seek the Vietnamese government’s support for the implementation of large-scale projects between the two sides such as Lach Huyen Port, Long Thanh Airport and Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant, he noted. Mr. Yoshida expressed his hope that Vietnam would create a legal framework for Japanese investors to engage in infrastructure development projects under the public-private-partnership (PPP) format in Vietnam. For his part, Mr. Hai said that Japan has supported Vietnam in implementing significant infrastructure projects through the large and stable official development assistance (ODA) provision. He also hoped that the Japanese government will continue to support the ongoing projects like the North-South Expressway and the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant and help Vietnam successfully apply the PPP model in infrastructure construction.
