Japan Funds $2M to Upgrade Urban Transport in Vietnam Danang
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has funded $2 million to Vietnam’s central city of Danang for upgrading the urban transport system, which is overloaded by rapid urbanization. Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Oct 18, the sum will enable Danang to apply information and communication technologies in operating public transport system and to train manpower in urban management. A smart transport network in the city will facilitate its socio-economic development as Danang is one of the famous destinations for visitors, said Dang Viet Dung, director of the Danang Department of Transport. In efforts to boost its urban transport, the municipal authorities have approved a project costing $37 million, funded by the official development assistance (ODA), to invest in bus rapid transit (BRT) by 2015.
