Japan Firm to Build Vietnam’s First Int’l Medical University
Japan’s leading Waseda Health Sciences Education Corporation has signed a land lease contract with Ecopark developer Viet Hung Urban Development and Investment JSC to build the first international medical university in Vietnam. The Tokyo Vietnam Medical University will be built at an estimated cost of VND400 billion ($18.87 million) in the Ecopark in the northern province of Hung Yen. The school is expected to be built for two years and open in 2015, focusing on the majors of nursing and physiotherapy. In the next years, the university will expand the training to other majors including functional rehabilitation and clinical sciences. It will enroll 1,500 students. The university will include an auditorium, research area, and indoor and outdoor sports complexes. Design, construction, and supervision of the project will be conducted by international contractors. At the signing ceremony, Ecopark announced a Waseda Scholarship Fund worth $286,000 that gives five annual scholarships for local students to study at this medical school in the years to come.
