Italy Lends Vietnam EUR14M for Better Water Treatment Capacity
Italy has decided to loan EUR13.7 million to Vietnam for wastewater treatment system and flood early warning system in two projects in the southern province of Tay Ninh. Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment and Italian embassy to Vietnam, the money will be used to strengthen the flood early warning system and improving environment sanitation in the province. The projects will help Vietnam build multi-sensor hydro-meteorological monitoring networks to improve the quality of weather forecasts with an aim to mitigate impacts of natural disasters and deal with environmental pollution and flood in Tay Ninh. Tay Ninh, one of six localities in the southeast and adjacent to the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City, suffers water pollution and inundation caused by rapid urbanization and poor flood warning capacity.
