Islamic Cham Urged To Maintain National Unity
Vice Chairman Ma Dien Cu congratulates the Cham people on the Ramuwan Festival (Image: binhthuantoday.com) Nhan Dan- Islamic ethnic minority Cham people should promote their tradition of maintaning national unity, overcome difficulties to boost economic development and eradicate hunger and poverty, as well as improve their living standards. Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Ethnic Minorities Council Ma Dien Cu was speaking with chief monks and religious leaders in Tuy Phong, Bac Binh and Ham Thuan Bac districts of Binh Thuan southern central coastal province on the the Islamic ethnic minority Cham’s Ramuwan Festival. The official was pleased with comprehensive developments in the lives of the Cham, saying he hoped that key religious leaders will be examples in implementing Party, State and local policies, helping to strengthen new rural areas. Also for the occasion, representatives from the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee, the People’s Council, People’s Committee, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and agencies, industries and localities in Binh Thuan visited and congratulated the Cham Bani in Tuy Phong, Bac Binh, Ham Thuan Bac and Tanh Linh districts. The Cham living in Binh Thuan province has began celebrating the Ramuwan Festival, their annual and most important traditional festival. The one-month event, in which many traditional rituals are held, is a time when the Cham Bani show gratitude to their ancestors. Binh Thuan Province is home to more than 30,000 ethnic Cham, including 15,000 who are Cham Bani. (Nhan Dan – The People Aug 1)
