Int’l NGOs Pledge $4.68M for Vietnam Central Province
A number of international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have pledged to grant $4.68 million to Vietnam’s central province of Thanh Hoa. The commitment was made at a meeting to mobilize financial supports from international NGOs in Thanh Hoa on Nov 21. Le Dinh Tho, vice mayor, said the province has spoken highly of cooperation and assistance of NGOs over the past time, affirming to create favorable conditions for them to operate and implement charitable projects effectively in the coming times in a bid to support it in poverty reduction and sustainable development. Over the past years, the province has taken the initiative in calling on both foreign and domestic investors, including international NGOs to join hands in social and charitable projects. Thanh Hoa carried out 240 aid programs and projects totaling $43 million in the 2005-2010 period. Up to 37 NGOs are operating in the province with 51 underway programs and projects which focus on agriculture, rural development, healthcare, education, social issues, environment, natural disaster mitigation and climate change adaptation.
