Int’l Donors Pledge More Assistances for Vietnam

Foreign donors pledged further supports for Vietnam to stabilize its macro economy and ensure social security next years at the mid-term meeting of Consultative Group (CG) for Vietnam closed in the central province of Ha Tinh June 9.  At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung said advice of the donors for Vietnam’s development was as valuable as their financial support, affirming that their assistance had been used effectively and transparently.
“Vietnam anticipates that international donors will continue cooperating with us,” he said. In the time to come, Vietnam needed significant support in the fields of poverty reduction, rural development and coping with climate change, he noted.
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Vo Hong Phuc said there were changes in Vietnam's economic situation in the first months of the year.
“The Vietnamese government has put several key objectives at the top of its agenda such as inflation control, stabilization of the macro economy and social security. The Resolution No.11 includes six solutions to implement these objectives,” he said.
Max Von Bonsdorff from the Embassy of Finland said the aid effectiveness forum (AEF) reaffirmed its strong commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of aid to maximize support for the government development agenda and contribution to Vietnam's achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.
Vietnam will need around $30 billion in ODA in the next five years though it has become a middle-income country. International donors pledged $7.905 billion in ODA for Vietnam in 2011. (Vietnam News Jun 10)
