Increasing Power Supply for Over 10,000 Khmer Families
Mr. Pham Ngoc Le, deputy director of the Southern Power Corporation (EVN/SPC), said that the corporation is pursuing the project to increase power supply to mainly Khmer ethnic minority families in the two southern provinces of Soc Trang and Tra Vinh. Over 10,000 Khmer families in the two provinces will enjoy the benefits of the project, as their Chol Chnam Thmay Festival takes place in mid-April. When completed, the project will raise the number of families in Soc Trang and Tra Vinh provinces with access to power to 98.5% and 95%, respectively, and Khmer families in the provinces to 90% and 92%, respectively. According to leaders of EVN/SPC, the project started in July 2011 with investment capital of over VND 533 billion. In 2012, the corporation will continue another project to provide power to families so far without access to power, mainly Khmer families in the southern province of Kien Giang. The VND 176 billion project will benefit 8,965 families. (cpv.org.vn Mar 9)
