Hospital in Hanoi Conducts Two Successful Organs Transplants
Doctors at Viet Duc Hospital in Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi have successfully carried out two transplant cases for two patients, including a liver transplant for a near 60 male patient and a heart transplant for a male patient aged over 40. The organs were taken from a brain-dead patient in Cho Ray Hospital in southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City. According to Doctor Trinh Hong Son, deputy head of Viet Duc Hospital, after receiving the information from Cho Ray Hospital, two doctors from Viet Duc Hospital got on the earliest flight to the southern city and then carry out all the surgeries in 36 hours straight. As of September 5th afternoon, the two patients’ health were in good stage. Doctors were able to conduct extubation but still put the two patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring. Currently, there are 13 hospitals in Vietnam approved to do transplant with the national coordination center for organ transplantation based in Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi.
