Hanoi Launches Additional Methadone Treatment Facilities

The Hanoi Health Department organized to launched two methadone treatment facilities at the HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Centre in Ha Dong district and Hospital 09 in Thanh Tri district on January 27th. According to the guideline of the government, in 2015, Hanoi will receive and treat for 8,500 drug user with methadone. Apart from six available methadone treatment facility, the city will launch additional 11 facilities with a total of 17 facilities in Hanoi. To be carried out in 2009, the methadone maintenance treatment program help drug users change their behaviors in HIV infection prevention, improve their health, reduce use of heroin and reduce crimes caused by drug users.
