GCF Aims to Hand over 1.1K Climate-resistant Ponds to Vietnam by 2026
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is striving to hand over 1,159 climate-resistant ponds to Vietnam by 2026, local media reported.
The pond construction is a part of the project “Strengthening the resilience of small-scale agricultural production to water insecurity caused by climate change in the Central Highlands and south central coast in Vietnam,” which is co-launched by the United Nations Development Program, Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the People’s Committees of Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan.
As of August 2, 106 among 121 ponds from the project were completed and put into use in the localities mentioned above. The remaining 15 are currently under construction and are expected to be completed in 2023.
The pond is designed to efficiently store rainwater and surface water while providing a sustainable water source to farmers during the annual dry season. It is also built to respond to different climate scenarios.
