France to Support Vietnam’s Post-typhoon Recovery, Agriculture Sector

France has expressed readiness to support Vietnam in recovering from the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, particularly in northern mountainous areas, following a September 17 meeting in Hanoi between Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam and French Ambassador Olivier Brochet, local media reported.

Ambassador Brochet reaffirmed France’s commitment to providing emergency assistance to the regions hit hardest by the typhoon and exploring long-term collaborations.

He praised the growing agricultural cooperation between France and Vietnam, citing the December 2023 agricultural cooperation agreement and highlighting France-based Andros Group’s significant investments in Vietnam’s fruit industry.

Andros Group’s President and CEO Florian Delmas outlined the company’s ongoing efforts to support sustainable agriculture in the Mekong Delta, despite challenges in managing supply chains.

Deputy Minister Nam emphasized Vietnam’s focus on helping citizens recover from the disaster and requested France’s assistance in rebuilding homes, restoring agricultural production, and enhancing natural disaster early warning systems.

He also discussed expanding logistics and agricultural cooperation, including the development of a Rungis-style market in Hanoi and support for Vietnam’s salt industry.

The deputy minister concluded by expressing hope that agricultural trade between Vietnam and France will continue to grow, leveraging the strong potential of both nations.
