Foreign Groups Fund $1B for Vietnam Climate Change Response from 2009
Foreign organizations have financed roughly $1 billion for climate change response programs in Vietnam, one of five countries hardest hit by such environmental problem. The organizations include the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the French Development Agency (AFD), the World Bank, the Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In addition, the donors have cooperated with Vietnam’s agencies to build 219 action plans on climate change response through the Support Program to Respond to Climate Change in Vietnam (SPRCC). Since 2009, it is estimated that about 9.07 million people in Mekong delta have benefited from the program. The SPRCC will last until the end of 2015. (Giaothongvantai.com.vn April 17)
