Dong Thap Strives to Reduce Family Poverty Rate to 5% by 2015

During the 2011-2015 period, the southern province of Dong Thap will priorities more than VND 1 trillion to reduce the family poverty rate under the new standard to 5 percent, raise average income per capita by 1.6 times compared to 2010 and open vocational training courses for workers in rural areas, in order to target sustainable poverty reduction.
By the end of 2010, the province had over 76,000 poor families which borrow capital with a total outstanding balance of more than VND 440 billion. Accordingly, the poor families will enjoy better access to state assistance. Essential social demands such as housing, water, medical treatment and studying will be improved. To reduce the family poverty rate to 5 percent, the province introduced solutions, such as establishing regulations for poor reduction programs at all levels, enhancing assistance to poor families to build viable businesses and encouraging vocational training in enterprises.
During the period, Dong Thap will intensify vocational training for workers, especially workers in rural areas and organize job transaction fairs for workers to gain more information on labor markets. The province strives to offer jobs for more than 30,000 workers a year. (cpv.org.vn May 12)
