Deputy PM Urges Northern Mountainous Province to Focus on Poverty Reduction

During a working trip to the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau on July 28, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong said that the province should focus on ensuring social welfare and giving priority to rapid and sustainable poverty reduction. During the trip, the Deputy Prime Minister praised the province for what had already been achieved, which has already changed the lives of many people for the better. Working with provincial leaders, he stressed that the province should continue the implementation of the Government’s Resolution 11, with a focus on increasing production and business activities, issuing investment encouragement policies, and mobilizing all resources to exploit the potential the province possesses. He also urged the province to implement measures to stabilize and manage the prices of goods as well as the market. Stressing that the province still faces a lot of difficulties with such a high poverty rate, the Deputy Prime Minister said that Lai Chau province should pay attention to providing rapid and sustainable poverty reduction, in order to further improve people’s spiritual and material lives. He also requested the province build strong Party and authority structures, in order to firmly protect national security, sovereignty and social order. In the first six months of the year, Lai Chau province saw an economic growth rate of 10.2% and created jobs for 4,300 laborers while recording positive changes in poverty reduction, including the building of houses for over 6,830 poor families.
