Denmark to Grant $723,056 for Water Supply Project in Vietnam Mekong Delta

The Denmark government will donate DKK4 million ($723,056) for building clean water supply systems using renewable energy in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region from 2012 to 2014. The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and authorities of Can Tho City signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the project on November 30. The project will focus on promoting and providing energy efficient and environmentally friendly solutions to bring water to rural areas.  It is aimed to enhance knowledge and use of solar-and wind-powered water supply systems for the benefit of the environment and economy of the region. John Nielsen, Danish Ambassador to Vietnam said demand of the Southeast Asian country for higher technology in this field can be fulfilled by Danish competences. Earlier, foreign donors from Denmark, Australia and the U.K. also pledged more supports for a national target program on rural water and environmental sanitation in Vietnam in the years to come.
