Denmark to Fund $135M for Vietnam Green Growth by 2012
Denmark has pledged to fund $135 million in official development assistance (ODA) to promote green growth in Vietnam in the 2011-2012 period, the Danish Embassy said at a press conference in Hanoi Oct 19. Speaking at the event, Danish Ambassador John Nielsen said that green growth will be a major factor in trade and development support activities. The funding will focus on developing green growth in Vietnam, including clean water supply, effective energy use and researching programs for climate change response. It is expected to help better the quality of water sources, facilitate access to clean water for poor households and take measures to reduce water leakage.
“Two years ago, Demark was one of the first sponsors of Vietnam in the field of climate change, as we know that the country is forecast to suffer great losses from climate change,” Nielsen added.
As one of Vietnam’s key donors, Denmark has funded more than $1.2 billion in development projects since 1993, such as clean water and environmental sanitation, agriculture, judicial reform and private business development.
