Dengue Fever Kills 6 People in Vietnam Mekong Delta Region

Dengue fever has claimed six lives in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region so far this year, the Nguoi Lao Dong online newspaper reported, citing reports by preventive medicine centers. Among the region, Ca Mau, Soc Trang and Vinh Long provinces have recorded two fatal cases each, the reports noted. The disease has also affected 1,400 people in Ca Mau, mainly those in Dam Doi, Thoi Binh, Tran Van Thoi, Cai Nuoc districts and Ca Mau city while attacking 300 cases in Can Tho City, focusing on Vinh Thanh, Phong Dien, Thoi Lai and Co Do districts. The dengue fever patients have also been reported in Soc Trang, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Tien Giang and Tra Vinh with 700, 290, 510, 124, 300 and 200 cases, respectively. In May, dengue fever affected 2,400 Vietnamese people, raising the total number of such cases to 13,700 in the first five months of this year, the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO) said.
