Christian NGO Provides Free Medical Treatment for the Poor

Volunteer doctors of the Good Samaritan Medical Ministry (GSMM) organization have provided free medical check-ups and medicines for more than 3,000 poor people in northern Cao Bang province. While staying there from July 17-27, they offered free surgery for 90 patients who suffered from poor digestion, obstetrical, cardiovascular and eye diseases and cancer. Besides, they also presented modern equipment to Cao Bang general hospital and transferred new technical know-how to local doctors. The total funding for the program is estimated at more than $500,000. Most of the volunteer doctors are overseas Vietnamese coming from the United States. The GSMM is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian non-governmental organization (NGO) which undertakes annual summer missions to Vietnam. It aims to provide state-of-the-art medical-dental care through annual missions, medical education and healthcare facilities, for Vietnamese medical centers. (vovnews.vn Jul 30)
