Cardiovascular Disease Kills 200,000 in Vietnam Every Year

About 200,000 people die of cardiovascular disease in Vietnam each year, accounting for 33% of the country’s total deaths, experts said at the World Heart Day event in Hanoi on September 29.

Of these, strokes are the leading cause, with the mortality rate rising from 127.3 per 100,000 people in 2000 to 164.9 per 100,000 today.

In addition to cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health concern, often caused by diabetes and hypertension. More than 8.7 million Vietnamese adults are affected by CKD, representing 12.8% of the population. However, only 4.5% to 15.5% of stage 3 CKD patients are diagnosed.
