Canada to Launch Education Week in Vietnam Oct 23

The government of Canada will launch an education week in Vietnam cities from Oct 23-29 this year, the Canada Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City said.  The event will start in Ho Chi Minh City on Oct 23, in the central city of Danang on Oct 26, and in the capital city of Hanoi on Oct 29, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported Oct 5. During the week, many activities related to recruitment, conferences on study abroad, visa procedures, and scholarships will be held. The Government of Canada always considers Vietnam a priority in its educational cooperation. Canada has raised scholarships for Vietnamese students up to $50,000 per year, a Canadian official said. Vietnam has made great progress in education, especially universalising primary education, thanks to the government’s positive educational policies, he added. However, the Vietnamese education has yet to develop as expected because of difficulties in budget and teaching staff, the official said, adding that Canada would help Vietnam in educational programs and training high-quality human resources. The numbers of Vietnamese students going to Canada for study reached more than 500 in 2008. Vietnam is now in the top 25 foreign countries having most students in Canada.
