Australian Embassy Funds Rice Value Transformation Project in Vietnam
The Australian Embassy in Vietnam has financed AUD16 million ($10.6 million) for a project on transforming the rice value chain for climate resilient and sustainable development in the Mekong Delta (TRVC) in Vietnam, state media reported.
The project, announced at a workshop on January 16, will be implemented in An Giang, Dong Thap, and Kien Giang provinces till 2027. It will start in the upcoming summer-fall crop.
It aims to help transform over 200,000 hectares of rice farms to low-emission paddy production areas and improve local farmers’ livelihoods, thus contributing to Vietnam’s scheme on developing one million hectares of high-quality low-emission paddy in the Mekong Delta by 2030.
Ms. Cherie Anne Russell, Counselor for Development at the Australian Embassy, affirmed the embassy’s commitment to help Vietnam achieve its net-zero target by 2050 and expectation that Vietnam’s rice production will develop prosperously in the green and comprehensive orientations.
