Australia to Grant 245 Scholarships to Vietnam Students This Year

The government of Australia will grant 245 scholarships to Vietnamese students in 2011, one and a half higher than the figure of 2009, the Ha Noi Moi newspaper reported March 22. The scholarships worth AUD300,000 each is part of the government’s efforts to help Vietnam improve its human resources quality. Vietnam had sent 15,900 students to study in Australia by May 2009, ranking the 7th among foreign countries, a rise of 60% compared to 2008, said the International Education Agency-Australia (IEAA). The biggest increase was in the fields of general education and vocational training with over 4,090 Vietnamese students registering to study, up 107% against 2008. (Ha Noi Moi – New Hanoi Mar 22 p5)
