340kg Bomb Buried in Residential Area for Over 40 years
A 340kg bomb made by the U.S. was discovered about 50m from a railway bridge in a residential area by a local inhabitant of Bao Ha commune in the northern province of Lao Cai. Relevant agencies said the bomb, which contained 170kg of explosives, might have stayed underground for more than 40 years. It is believed that the bomb was dropped by the U.S. military during the aerial war of destruction against northern Vietnam between 1968 and 1972. Lao Cai military engineers removed the bomb to a safe site far from residential areas and detonated it on May 26. (vovnews.vn May 26)
