218 Workers at Japan Firm Suffer Food Poisoning in North Vietnam

As many as 218 workers at Japanese-invested IRISO Electronics Co., Ltd in Vietnam’s northern province of Hai Duong suffered food poisoning after having lunch at the company’s canteen on July 6.
Among the affected cases, some pregnant women and 26 workers showed serious symptoms of fever, stomachache, nausea and diarrhea. They were taken to a General Hospital in Cam Giang district.
More than 20 workers had been discharged from the hospital. Right after the incident, local health taskforces took food samples for testing, to find the cause, Pham Duy Tuyen, chief of the provincial Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, said.
Initial results of the investigation showed that the culprit seems to be vegetables contaminated with toxic chemicals.
Earlier, food poisoning also attacked around 150 workers of South Korean-invested Kido Hanoi Co., Ltd. in the northern province of Hung Yen and 120 employees of Malaysia-invested Shingmark Co., Ltd in southern province of Dong Nai;
More and more toxic chemicals in food samples along with a series of food poisoning cases have been reported in recent times, triggering the public concerns over food safety and hygiene violation.
