10,000 Cows for Needy Ethnic Minority People

The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) in co-ordination with Vietnam Television and the Border Guard High Command are implementing a project to donate breeding cows to needy ethnic minority people for the 2013-2014 period. Under the ‘Cow Bank’ project, around 10,000 cows worth nearly VND100 billion will be mobilised from organisations and individuals from across the country to support needy people in 28 poor and border districts, in which each district will receive at least 100 breeding cows. According to VRC Chairman Nguyen Hai Duong, 62 poor districts and 1,000 border communes are expected to benefit from the project by 2014. Since 2010, the VRC has presented over 7,000 breeding cows to poor households in 39 provinces nationwide. (Nhan Dan – The People May 7)
