Job title: Veterinary Program Intern (1 position)
Start date: as soon as possible
Main duty station: Hanoi, however must be available to join the WCS field veterinary team on sampling
trips away from Hanoi for up to 2 weeks.
Organization background:
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a US?based conservation organization registered as a non?profit organisation and has been dedicated to conserving the earth's biodiversity since its establishment in 1895.
The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Global Health Program (GHP) works in tandem with the WCS Country Program in Vietnam to address the critical conservation issue of illegal hunting and trade in wildlife. They conduct research to provide reliable data on the health and emerging disease aspects of the wildlife trade in Vietnam and use the interface of human, wildlife and domestic animal health to promote conservation. They work closely with the government to strengthen wildlife crime law enforcement in Vietnam, and through their partnerships with other National organizations aim to build political momentum within Vietnam to take wildlife crime seriously.
Main responsibilities of the required post:
- Accompany the WCS field veterinary team during any field sampling activities. Many of these activities take place out of Hanoi, and require travel by plane, bus or car.
- Assist in organising WCS Vietnam events including donor visits, study tours, training workshops, regional meetings, and internal staff events
- Provide support in managing veterinary program stock (sampling equipment and laboratory consumable needs).
- Monitor Vietnamese print and online media for news regarding outbreak of disease in wildlife and livestock in Vietnam
- Provide support to translation, editing and review WCS document in English and Vietnamese
- Assist in logistics and administration for program activities (meeting, workshop, training)
Desired qualifications: This position is for young Vietnamese veterinarian who has:
- Completed (or about to complete) a degree in Veterinary Medicine
- Good English and Vietnamese language skills
- Good communication and team working skills
- Good computer skills
- Comfortable travelling to, and working in rural areas
- Passionate about conservation of Vietnam’s biodiversity
