Research Assistant
The Australian National University (ANU) is currently seeking a full time research assistant to work on a project on Cat Ba Island called "The behaviour and ecology of the Cat Ba langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus): Implications for species conservation" Specifically we are seeking a research assistant to assist an ANU PhD student with data collection for a research project on the socioecology and conservation of the Cat Ba langur on Cat Ba Island. Associated duties would include:
- Assist with note taking, monkey identification and data collection
- Act as an interpreter for the ANU researcher to assist for the maintenance of local relationships and notifications from local villagers of monkey locations
- Assist in the collection of fecal samples and plant samples from the three study groups as needed
- Assist with the identification and monitoring of sleeping caves
The following skills are required for this position:
- Minimum of a BSc in Ecology or Biodiversity conservation or equivalent
- Experience working with foreign researchers
- Experience working on primate conservation/research projects
- Fluency in both Vietnamese and English languages
- Experience working with local Vietnamese communities
The following skills are preferred, but not required for this position:
- MSc in Ecology, Biodiversity Conservation or equivalent
- Experience using GIS
- Experience working with local Cat Ba Island communities
- Boat Captains licence (will be willing to train the successful candidate to achieve this)
It is expected that the hired individual will work a repeated cycle of 2 weeks on followed by 5 days off, although this is flexible and can be worked out with the successful candidate. This position will start as a one year contract, with option to extend possible. MSc students interested in conducting their own research on Cat Ba will be considered.
