FFI Programme in Vietnam
The FFI Programme in Vietnam is implementing projects to conserve Western black-crested gibbons at Mu Cang Chai Species & Habitat Conservation Area of Yen Bai province and Muong La Nature Reserve of Son La province, Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys at Khau Ca Species & Habitat Conservation Area and Quan Ba district of Ha Giang province, Cao Vit gibbons at Trung Khanh Species & Habitat Conservation Area of Cao Bang province, Cat Ba langurs at Cat Ba National Park of Hai Phong City, Delacour langurs at Kim Bang forest of Ha Nam province, Northern white-cheeked gibbons at Pu Mat National Park of Nghe An province, and Grey shanked douc at Kon Plong forest of Kon Tum province.
The Opportunity
FFI Programme in Vietnam is seeking a Vietnamese talented and enthusiastic intern to assist with the biodiversity surveys and compilation of existing baseline data on the biodiversity of conservation projects in Vietnam, focusing on primates conservation. We are looking for a national Vietnamese intern to commit ideally one year internship based in Hanoi office with frequent travel to project sites. It is anticipated that the Biodiversity Intern will spend 50% time in the field / at project sites.
Applicants should have a background in biology, forestry, natural resources management, or relevant field, good English language skills and, ideally, some experience of biodiversity conservation.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Start Date: As soon as possible
Duration: One year
Location: Hanoi with frequent travel to project sites
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Allowance: Package (inclusive) US$230 – US$270 gross/month based on skills and experience

Working with: The Biodiversity Intern will routinely liaise with Project Field Officers/Assistants and technical staff of the FFI Vietnam Programme, representing the values and interests of FFI at all times.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Biodiversity Intern position is to support FFI (Vietnam Programme) in the areas of biodiversity research and monitoring. The role includes data management, entry of biodiversity data into databases and field conservation including biodiversity surveys.
THE ROLE
The Biodiversity Intern will be an early-career professional with interest in biodiversity conservation. S/He will be responsible for supporting biodiversity team conduct wildlife surveys and biodiversity research, supporting entry of data, and supporting undertake field activities at FFI conservation sites. This role will require 50% time travel to project sites.
MAIN DUTIES
Under the supervision of the Country Programme Manager and with coordination of Technical Advisor - Biodiversity, the Intern will support to conduct field activities including the following:
- Support to conduct wildlife surveys and biodiversity research;
- Support to entry raw data from field surveys into database;
- Support to build capacity for local Biodiversity Monitoring Teams and local rangers in collecting and managing biodiversity monitoring data;
- Support to prepare logistics for field surveys and activities;
- Support to organise workshops, seminars, an meetings at local levels.
OTHER DUTIES
- Undertake tasks in support of the FFI Programme in Vietnam that may reasonably be requested by Country Programme Manager;
- Ensure that field activities are conducted to a high level of health, safety, integrity, environmental good practice and cultural sensitivity. This includes ensuring that field medical kits are in good order and taken out on every field trip;
- Ensure that FFI policies and guidelines are followed within the implementation of the FFI Programme in Vietnam;
- Other duties as reasonably required as a Biodiversity Intern.
REQUIRED OUTPUTS
- Mission Terms of Reference(s) (MTOR) before and Back to the Office Report(s) (BTOR) after field trips/visits;
- Delivery of activities in accordance with agreed work plans;
