History of operations in Vietnam

VSO has been working in Viet Nam since 1991 with 30 to 40 VSO specialists working across Vietnam at any one time. VSO has brought over 400 volunteers. Key partnerships have been developed with Government Ministries, provincial and district Departments of Government, with local and international NGOs, with Civil Social Organizations, with mass organizations, with self help groups and with Disabled people‘s organizations. VSO initially focused on English Language Teaching and then on basic education and livelihoods in the 90's. Volunteer specialists currently focus on capacity building of local partners, through developing individuals, organizational capacity building and technical assistance in the fields HIV/AIDS, disability, education, health, social work and ethnic minority. VSO's participative approach aims to meet the needs identified by partners and target groups and to avoid imposing external solutions.
