Mission Statement
The vision for Saigon Children's Charity is the elimination of poverty through education. Our mission is to ensure that disadvantaged children and young people receive a good quality education in order to help them reach their full potential in life.SCC defines disadvantaged as any disadvantage, physical or mental, visible or invisible, which affects a child s ability to access education or to learn to their full potential. We provide scholarships to those children that struggle most to get to school. We build schools in rural areas where none exist or where there is a demonstrable need. We provide vocational training and advice and social support at key times to children, their families and schools.
History of operations in Vietnam
Saigon Children's Charity (SCC) was established in 1992 to help disadvantaged children in Vietnam escape from the cycle of poverty by giving them an education and a fairer start in life. SCC focuses on three main areas: • Providing scholarships – SCC supports more than 3,500 children every day and has supported over 40,000 in total since we started. We build schools and, since 1992, SCC has built more than 250 classrooms. We offer English and vocational training and, in Ho Chi MInh City, we run Thang Long School. We are an NGO registered in the UK, USA and Vietnam. A board of independent trustees is accountable for the work and the expenses of SCC, which is independently audited by KPMG every year. At least 85% of our expenditure goes directly on the children through our education programmes. Our team works directly with the children, as well as with trusted partners such as provincial or local authorities, associations, the Women’s Union and other NGOs.
