Mission Statement

Pearl S. Buck International is a non-profit organization with three distinct functions that operate as one with the common mission of continuing the legacy and dreams of Pearl S. Buck. her commitment to improving the quality of life and expanding opportunities for children and promoting an understanding of the values and attributes of other cultures, the injustice of prejudice, and the need for humanitarianism throughout the world.

History of operations in Vietnam

The Pearl S. Buck Foundation opened its program of sponsored assistance to Vietnamese displaced children in early 1971. Operations were disrupted in 1975 due to the Viet Nam War. In the early 1980s, PSBF cooperated with the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam in a project to facilitate the migration of Amerasian children from Viet Nam to the United States. In 1990, the Pearl S. Buck Foundation signed an agreement with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to "cooperate in a program for welfare services for abandoned, destitute and displaced children". The country office in Viet Nam was set up in 1997. Since that time, Pearl S. Buck International Vietnam has worked with Viet Nam's most disadvantaged children including orphans, children with disabilities, and displaced children through institutions and children's centre.
