Mission Statement

Our mission is to build environments that allow every person to construct their future and work for a fairer society. Since its creation in 1988, IECD has followed the human and economic development of the countries where it has been involved. IECD bases its action on a comprehensive approach of the person. We are convinced that people who are well trained on academic, technical, social and human level will build a better future for themselves, their family, their community, and – more broadly – for the society. IECD encourages young people, parents, professionals and local actors of development to take an active and responsible part in the life of the city.

History of operations in Vietnam

In Vietnam, the informal sector is the main source of employment (excluding agriculture). In Ho Chi Minh City – the economic capital of the country – street vendors, artisans and other small entrepreneurs are particularly numerous. However, due the lack of fundamental business management concepts and opportunities to access microfinance support as well as technical/skill training, most of micro and small entrepreneurs have still maintained operating their businesses in a spontaneous way and therefore, generate low and/or unsteady income. In order to support this population, IECD has cooperated with Social Development Training Center (SDTC) since the mid-2013 to launch the Micro Small Entrepreneurs Support Program (MSE Support Program) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The goal of this program is to help micro and small entrepreneurs to structure their businesses and to reinforce their capacity of running an effective business.
