Mission Statement

Formed in 1971, Family Health International (FHI) is among the largest and most established nonprofit organizations active in international public health with a mission to improve lives through research, education, and services in family health. We manage research and filed activities in more than 70 countries to meet the public health needs of some of the world’s most vulnerable people. We work with a wide variety of partners including governmental and nongovernmental organizations, research institutions, community groups, and the private sector. We help countries and communities to: 1) Prevent the spread of HIV and sexually transmitted infections and care for those affected by them; 2) Improve people’s access to quality reproductive health services, especially safe, effective, and affordable family planning methods; and 3) Improve the health of women and children, especially those who live in resource-constrained settings.

History of operations in Vietnam

In 1998, FHI established its Hanoi office to provide technical and financial support for HIV/AIDS work in Vietnam under the US Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded IMPACT project. FHI's North Carolina office has supported research on MCH (Maternal Child Health) and on the effectiveness and safety of family planning methods. FHI Hanoi was upgraded as the representative office in Vietnam since February 14,2003.
