Mission Statement
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) was founded in 1943 by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to assist the poor and disadvantaged overseas. CRS’ mission statement calls the agency to alleviate human suffering, advance full human development, and foster charity and justice in the world. All CRS programs assist persons only on the basis of need, regardless of creed, ethnicity or nationality.
History of operations in Vietnam
CRS has worked in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam with an office in Hanoi since 1994. The program mirrors the dynamic development of Vietnam and CRS’ desire to meet traditional and emerging needs. CRS’ programming in Vietnam has two signature areas of Education and Health/HIV as priorities which aim to help disadvantage people, including people with disability and living with HIV, along with continuous emergency response and new programming area of climate change and disaster risk reduction. CRS projects are underway in 11 provinces spread across the country in the northern, central and southern regions. CRS- VN is registered as an international NGO with the representative office in Hanoi. CRS-VN currently has 28 national and two expatriate staff, based in Hanoi. CRS currently has 20 partners including governmental and non-governmental organizations.
