World Bank to Help Vietnam Cope with Climate Change

The World Bank will continue assisting Vietnam in adapting to climate change, Vice President for East Asia and the Pacific of the bank James Adams said at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung in Hanoi Mar. 22. Adams praised Vietnamese government’s policies in coping with the global financial and economic crisis and the country’s sustainable development policy in the future.
In return, Deputy PM Hung expressed his thanks to the bank for its effective assistance to Vietnam in past years, which helped stabilize the macro economy, reduce poverty and ensure sustainable development. Hung also called for continuous supports from the bank for his country for socio-economic development and solving issues relating to climate and rising sea levels. Vietnam is listed among five hardest-hit by climate change countries. If sea levels rise by one meter, 38% of the country’s delta and coastal areas will be submerged.
