Vietnam, UNFPA Cooperate in $2M Gender Equality Project Next Year

Vietnam and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) will cooperate to manage gender equality projects that cost nearly $2 million next year, state media reported Dec. 22, citing the fund representative in Vietnam.  UNFPA and the country will undertake 43 gender equality projects in line with the common action plan between Vietnam and the United Nations for 2010, said Bruce Campbell.  Vietnam takes the lead in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the number of women taking part in the parliament with 25.76% in the term 2007-2011. However, the country is facing high rate of domestic violence cases at about 25% of families suffering from spiritual violence, the Ministry of Labor, Veterans and Social Affairs said.
