Vietnam Southern City Needs $300M for Wastewater Treatment Plant

Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to need $300 million to build a domestic wastewater treatment plant to reduce environment pollution in Tan Hoa-Lo Gom canal route, Nguyen Hoang Nhan, director of the city’s Management Unit of Urban Upgrading Projects said. The plant with the designed capacity of 300,000 cubic meters daily, is expected to reduce flooding and improve living conditions of 130,000 locals, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te Sai Gon newspaper cited Nhan as saying Aug 4. The canal route plays an important role in draining water of the 19-km residential areas, including Districts 6, 11, Tan Binh and Tan Phu, Nhan added. Residents in HCM City discharge 80% of total daily domestic wastewater, equaling 200-240 cubic meters, into rivers and canals.
