Vietnam to Send 1,130 Postgraduates abroad for PhD Training This Year

The Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) will send 1,130 postgraduates overseas for doctorate training this year.  The figure comprises 800 for PhD degrees, 300 for masters’ degrees and the remainder of 30 for apprentices, the Saigon Giai Phong newspaper reported March 11. The overseas training will focus on such fields as science and technology, social sciences, economics and management, arts and sports, healthcare and pharmacy, agriculture, forestry and fishery. The major destinations for Vietnamese government-sponsored students will include France, Australia, the U.S., the U.K., China, Thailand and Japan. Since 2000, Vietnam had sent 7,290 students to study overseas, including over 2,100 PhD followers, more than 1,600 masters and 695 fellows.
